Blog MetalTek’s Carondelet Division Certified to Produce HY-80 Steel

By: John Sutton

MetalTek’s Carondelet Division is excited to announce that we achieved certification to produce HY-80 steel. HY-80 is a low alloy steel renowned for its exceptional strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance. These properties make HY-80 ideally suited for the naval defense market, including both submarines and surface ships.

“Achieving this certification deepens MetalTek’s commitment to our military and those they protect,” said Barry Craig, General Manager of Carondelet. “By providing HY-80, Carondelet reaffirms our reputation as a trusted supplier to the defense industry that meets the most demanding quality and performance requirements.”

HY-80’s strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance make it ideally suited for naval defense applications

HY-80 certification requires independent verification of production standards. MetalTek is certified to produce HY-80 castings up to eight (8) inches in thickness to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Technical Publication T9074-BD-GIB-010/0300 (TP-300).

NAVSEA is the primary United States Navy command responsible for engineering, building, and maintaining naval ships and systems. Notably, Carondelet is one of few manufacturers to offer HY-80 using the sand casting process.

Carondelet produces high-specification sand castings for demanding markets such as defense, petrochemical, process equipment, and mining from our 180,000 square foot facility in Pevely, Missouri.
